Senior Journalist Hem Bhatt Assaulted & Threatened

Dehradun, February 7 — Senior journalist Hem Bhatt was allegedly attacked by unidentified assailants in Dehradun in what appears to be a targeted attempt to intimidate an independent media voice.

According to Mr. Bhatt, his television channel was shut down late last night. On February 6, at approximately 5:50 PM, while returning home from the Jai Bharat TV office on Convent Road towards Shanti Vihar (Haridwar Bypass), he was followed by three unidentified युवक (approx. 22–25 years) on a scooter.

Near MKP Chowk, as Mr. Bhatt turned onto Race Course Road, the attackers allegedly overtook his bike, forced him to stop, physically assaulted him, and issued serious threats, warning him to stop running news reports or face deadly consequences. The assailants fled the scene after local people began gathering.

Mr. Bhatt sustained injuries in the incident and received medical treatment at Doon Hospital. A formal complaint has been lodged at Dalanwala Police Station, and authorities have been urged to identify and arrest the accused at the earliest.

This incident raises serious concerns regarding the safety of journalists and freedom of the press. A fair and transparent investigation is expected to ensure accountability and uphold democratic values.
